Body Image
How many women on planet earth are happy with their body image? From infancy, girls are taught to judge themselves against stereotypes of beauty and acceptability, and to find themselves sadly lacking. Women are told by friends, family and society that they are the too small, fat, flat-chested or dumpy. This greatly damages women’s self-esteem and self-love. This lack of acceptance of the body is at the root of much of women’s psychological and emotional pain and disturbance.
Bulimia and Women’s Preoccupation with Thinness
In “Fat is a Feminist Issue”, Orbach (1988) explores the reasons why many women are compulsive eaters and suffer from bulimia. Women who are termed bulimic follow a self-destructive pattern of bingeing, consuming huge amounts of food addictively and then forcing themselves to vomit, to purge themselves of the distasteful food. Many women whom Orbach has worked with in her psychotherapy practice go on binges to fill the lonely void in their lives. Many hate their bodies, feel disgust and guilt for being fat but also feel that the extra layers of fat give them a kind of protection, helping them to feel less weak and vulnerable in such a patriarchal world.
Body Image and Creative Expression
It isn’t just about “looking good” or eating disorders; body image relates to our identity, and how we think about and accept ourselves, which directly or indirectly affects how we access the awareness and emotional energy we need for creating.
Body image issues can be particularly visible in entertainment, which provides most of our icons and role models..
Some highly talented actors such as Emma Thompson seem to revel in roles with unusual looks, such as her character in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and as a governess with frightening features in “Nanny McPhee.”
In her film Carrington (1995), she appears with rather short hair, dressed “mannishly” and Thompson said she did not feel any loss of femininity dressed that way, but rather “lots of freedom, complete freedom. When I went to university, I shaved my head, wore little wrap glasses and butch overalls, because I didn’t want to be trapped in femininity.”

Learn to attract women and to get them interested in you
Attracting women is like fishing. I do not mean this in any derogatory or demeaning manner but it is true. Likely they way you have been going about your fishing/dating is like this: you see a fish and cast your line, if she doesn’t bite you try again and again. Here is the truth, if this is your method you will surely get some, but it will take forever and will take effort. You might get it on the first cast or it may take 1000, or the fish may never ever bite. This is a really inefficient method.
